Our office and home are in Rappahannock County, an hour from DC and a World Apart. It's further to the mall, Walmart and Home Depot, but the drive is nicer, and probably takes the same time. You can shop unique country stores, organic CSA farms and enjoy amazing local theatres, music, art tours, wineries, farm tours, craft breweries and two distilleries! There are diverse butterflies, birds and animals, impressive foothills, forests, verdant pastures and beautiful mountains and hollows. Did we mention no stoplights, billboards or chain stores until you head a east? And dark skies so you can enjoy the stars (not easy to find on the east coast). As a matter of fact, Rappahannock County now has an International Dark Skies county Park, one of only three in the nation. And I'm just getting started!
In the city and suburbs, you may not know the person across the street. Here, when you attend a play, a musical performance, a non-profit fundraiser or a restaurant, there are always people turned in their seats talking to friends or simply waving as they pass on the road... or meeting at the recycling centers.
